The question is not whether you may trade the news
It is whether you may close during it. A rule against opening a position around a release costs you a trade you were never obliged to take. A rule against closing one holds you inside a position you already have, through the minutes when the market moves furthest.
3 of the 15 programmes here bar both, for 2 min or 5 min either side of the release. The daily loss limit does not pause for it — and at several firms it is measured against equity, floating loss included.
You may not close either (3)
The group that matters. For the length of the window you cannot exit a position you already hold, and the loss limit does not pause with you.
DNA Funded · 1 Phase · 5 min
News: no executions, opening or closing, within 5 minutes either side of a high-impact event on the funded account. High-impact means marked red on the FXStreet calendar.
DNA Funded · Rapid (10 Days) · 5 min
The same 5% payout profit cap, 30% daily distribution cap, 60-second minimum hold and 5-minute news window as the rest of the range.
Blueberry Funded · 1-Step (Legacy) · 2 min
The news rule is stricter than Flex’s in one respect — you may not CLOSE either: "you must refrain from opening or closing trades 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after".
A window and a penalty, but not which action (1)
The window and what breaching it costs are published; whether the restriction is on opening, on closing, or on both is not.
Blueberry Funded · Flex 1-Step · 5 min
News trading uses a 5-minute window here against the firm’s general 2-minute policy, on a three-strike ladder that deducts the offending profit and can cut the profit split from 85% to 60% before closing the account.
Published both ways (1)
One firm permits closing in its help centre and forbids it in its terms, on the same window.
OneFunded · Core Challenge · 5 min
UNRECONCILED CONTRADICTION on news trading. The help centre permits it — "Clients are permitted to open, modify, and close positions" during the five minutes either side of high-impact news — while Terms clause 13.14 forbids exactly that: "the Client is strictly prohibited from closing, modifying, or partially closing any positions during the restricted period."
Opening only (1)
You cannot take a new position into the release. Anything already open is yours to manage.
Blueberry Funded · Prime 2-Step · 2 min
The news rule is looser than elsewhere here — only OPENING is restricted: "Do not open new trades within 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after a scheduled high-impact news release."
Only once you are funded (4)
Permitted while you were being assessed, restricted on the account you earn on.
For Traders · Pay After Pass (Forex) · 5 min
The funded account is a different product from the challenge: a 20% consistency rule, a 2% floating-loss protection and a five-minute news window all appear only there.
Blue Guardian · Buy Now Pay Later · unstated
Minimum holding time of 2 minutes; a trade closed sooner may be flagged as tick scalping. News trading is allowed during the challenge and not on the funded account. Overnight and weekend holding, expert advisors and trade copiers between your own accounts are all allowed.
Blue Guardian · 1 Step · unstated
News trading is allowed during the evaluation and NOT on the funded account. The firm publishes both in the same rules panel, one column apart.
Blue Guardian · 2 Step Standard · unstated
News trading is allowed during the evaluation and not on the funded account.
Not permitted at all (1)
Stated flatly, with no window published.
Blueberry Funded · Instant Elite · unstated
Base profit split 80%, stated as flat for this product. Payouts every 14 days on $100 minimum realised profit. High-impact news trading is not permitted, and the product is not eligible for resets.
No restriction, stated (4)
Said affirmatively rather than left out, which is the difference between a permission and a silence.
Maven Trading · Two Step Omo
News trading is unrestricted in both evaluation phases, a real divergence from the Standard programmes.
Breakout · 1-Step Turbo
News trading and weekend holds are unrestricted: "There is no rule or restriction on news trading" and "We allow for holding positions over the weekend."
Breakout · 1-Step Classic
News trading and weekend holds are unrestricted, and the daily limit is measured from the day-open balance rather than the session high.
Crypto Fund Trader · 2 Phases Evaluation
News trading is allowed — "Yes. News trading is allowed" — as are overnight and weekend holds.
One firm, three versions of the same rule
Reading a firm’s news policy and applying it to the account you bought is the mistake this section exists to prevent.

What a closing restriction actually does
Suppose you are holding a position when a red-folder release lands. On a five-minute window you may not act for ten minutes in total — five before, five after — which is the whole of the move. Nothing about the drawdown pauses in the meantime.
That is a materially different product from one where only opening is restricted, and the two are described with the same phrase on a pricing page: “news trading restricted”. The firms that draw the distinction draw it in a sentence, and the firms that do not are the ones worth asking.
It also explains why a firm might publish both answers by accident. OneFunded’s help centre permits closing during the window and their Terms forbid it, in language specific enough that one of the two was written by someone who had thought about this case.
What this does not measure
- · What counts as high-impact. Only DNA Funded name a source — red on the FXStreet calendar. Everywhere else the calendar deciding whether you broke a rule is not published.
- · What the 97 silent programmes do. Absence here means absent from the rules read for this site.
- · Any probability. Nothing on this site models a news window. The model counts a run of losing trades, and being unable to close is not a trade.
- · Enforcement. A three-strike ladder that deducts profit is published by one firm. How any of them detect a breach is not.

Questions
- Can you trade the news at a prop firm?
- 4 programmes here say yes with no restriction at all, in those words. The rest publish a window around high-impact releases — 2 min or 5 min either side — and what they bar inside it differs: some only opening, some opening and closing both.
- What is a news window in prop firm rules?
- A period either side of a scheduled high-impact release during which trading is restricted. The lengths published here are 2 min and 5 min. DNA Funded define high-impact concretely — marked red on the FXStreet calendar — which most firms leave to interpretation.
- Why does it matter whether closing is restricted?
- Because a rule against opening costs you a trade you never had to take, and a rule against closing holds you inside one you already have, through the minutes when price moves furthest. The daily loss limit does not pause for it, and at several firms that limit is measured against equity including floating loss. 3 programmes here bar closing.
- Do the rules differ between products at the same firm?
- Yes, at one firm. Blueberry publish a two-minute window restricting opening only on one product, a two-minute window restricting closing as well on another, and a five-minute window on a three-strike ladder on a third — the ladder deducts the offending profit and can cut the split from 85% to 60% before closing the account.
